  19. Zeroing your HDD for Mac Users For People Not So Talented to Read the Book
  20. Difficulty level (1-5): Pi/4

  22. Zero is a good number.
  23. It is the number that allows the authorities to not find any trace of information
  24. on a computer.
  25.  
  26. What I mean by 0'ing the HDD is to have the computer overwrite all the harddrive's
  27. information with zeroes instead of just deleting or formatting a hardrive because
  28. this leaves traces of information that the lettered agencies can use to track you
  29. down.

  31. The best part about zeroing is that its completely 100% legal and its basic system
  32. software with a Macintosh. (I'm not a real mac "addict" per say but I own an old 
  33. 1400C)

  35. The incredibly simple procedure:

  37. *Get a Mac OS CD (I know this works with version's 8.5 and newer)
  38.  
  39. *Backup all files on your HDD that you feel like keeping
  40. That was a crucial step because it removes anything on the HDD
  41.  
  42. *Insert CD into computer and either set it as the startup disk or put in the command
  43. to start up from a cd
  44.  
  45. *Go to the Utilities folder in the CD
  46.  
  47. *Then Drive setup
  48.  
  49. *Click on the appropriate volume
  50.  
  51. *Go to the functions menu and Initilization Options, checking the Zero All Data Box
  52.  
  53. *Click okay and then Initialize the disk
  54.  
  55. This is an extremely easy process that requires almost nill brainpower
  56. Another upside to this is that it will make cluttered hardrives run faster, since 
  57. fragmentation is completely eliminated.
